Simple steps to Happiness

“Life is made up of small pleasures. Happiness is made up of those tiny successes. The big ones come too infrequently. And if you don’t collect all these tiny successes, the big ones don’t really mean anything.”

Life gets too tough at times and how frequently do you stop and think that life can be simple and happy yet we, humans often treat it too complicated and tough.

Happiness can be built from many things. It could be gained from just a chocolate bar, to a jog in the park, or having a drink at the bar by yourself, or savoring your favourite steak. Some people feel happy at the slightest things, yet some see money as happiness. Often those who place their happiness on monetary issues are often the ones who wouldnt be easily satisfied by the simpler things in life. There isnt any right or wrong, however they are usually the ones to get depressed first, for eg. times they dont get to earn as much as before, or losing some along the way in life. Yea, if you actually get what I mean…

If you want to be satisfied with your life, it is recommended to look at it at various shades and do not perceive it very seriously.

Step 1. Laugh not at other people’s mistakes, but for a change, smile at failures.
People who take themselves too seriously are commonly not satisfied with their life when they come across the slightest problems. I do not want to say that you should head to the bottom of platitude, but often it is nothing bad with flowing downstream to appreciate an excellent possibility of making errors that all people have. So, do not become disappointed with small misfortunes, because they will occur in your life. You need to learn from them.

Always believe that things happen for a reason. With such lessons, comes knowledge.

Step 2. Watch the kids playing and you can even join them!
Do you remember your childhood, that times when you worried about the homework or broken pot? Do you remember those happy days when all cuts and damages faded away with a sweat candy or an interesting trip? It is never late to get back into your childhood and become a child again. When I observe children playing, I recollect my childhood. It was easy times and there were no problems there. Try to perceive your life as a playground. Get accustomed to the thought that you will have ups and downs in your life. When you feel frustrated, it does not mean the end of your life.

Step 3. Consider your top ten feel-great-things
Create a list of the things that raise your mood high. These can be plain things, such as tasty chocolate, your favorite tea, a phone call from your old friend. When you have finished creating the list, you will see that you feel better. Considering these enjoyable things can make you feel better! Thinking about all these things will help you to understand how much you have and value it.

You can also jot down “top ten achievements of all times” (if you recently have had some troubles at work for instance). It will make you recollect other strong sides that you have. If you feel a sudden heavy flow of falling self-esteem, recollect what things you can do that other people can not do or some things that you have got and others are abandoned. Well, life sometimes can be unjust, but it recompense. You may be lacking in one area, but you can fill it in in another.

Step 4. Listen to the misfortunes of other people
I do not want to sound hard-hearted or cruel, but try to concentrate on other people and their misfortunes instead of being upset with your own ones. Very often, you will start realizing that most of your big problems mean nothing when compared to the problems that other people face. Of course, you do not have to highlight this. When listening to other people, there will always be a person whose troubles will be worse than your own, for sure. Do not smile about the situation, you should value that you have and make an analysis of your life.

Actually a number of things for many people seem ordinary, for some people they are not that possible to do.
There isnt nothing called impossible.
There isnt ”just anybody” in this world – You have a reason for living, find your worth, find your happiness.

In each day that passes by, we stand by and witness how our lives are being lived without the full happiness and satisfaction we crave and need. Most people spend their time stressed out, worried and on a constant panic about what needs to be done for their futures, raising their children, wired up over work, school, along with everything else. Does this sound familiar? Well if it does, it is because so many people live with this style and pattern. When you can start living that fully happy and satisfied life?

The only way you can live a happy and satisfied life, is when you start doing things that make you happy and satisfied. Sure, it sounds easy, and can be easy if you just remember to make yourself one of your top priorities. Too many people neglect themselves, feeling that it would be selfish if they took any time out to focus on their own being. While it is good to take care of others and other important things going on in your life, it is mandatory that you never forget about yourself. Discover who you really are and what matters most to you. Living a great life does not just happen. It requires, planning and following those plans to a life that reflects who you truly are.

Theres 2 simple steps to be satisfied.
The first step, and you have probably heard it a lot but in sense it is the most important step. Think Positive.

If your thoughts remain positive it gives you the strength and commitment to continue, and do the steps required to achieve whatever you wish to achieve. So it’s the background function which you must have.

The second step to being more satisfied with your life is to actually stop thinking so much. People often complicate their feelings and thinkings and eventually it will cause more problems. If you cant stop thinking, take a break, have a good sleep, do things that can take your mind off the issue. Yes, easy to say but hard to do. Well, but dont you realise, every time something is over, and you look back, you realise your actions were quite foolish because you were irrational.

Let me share 9 tips on how to be happy in life.
1    Understand what it is that will make you happy. Everyone has unique requirements for attaining happiness and what makes one person happy may be very different from what makes someone else happy. Revel in your individuality and do not worry about whether or not your desires are comparable to those of your peers.
2   Make a plan for attaining goals that you believe will make you happy. Your mood will very likely increase as your pursue your goal because you will feel better about yourself for going after something you value.
3   Surround yourself with happy people. It is easy to begin to think negatively when you are surrounded by people who think that way. Conversely, if you are around people who are happy their emotional state will be infectious.
4    When something goes wrong try to figure out a solution instead of wallowing in self pity. Truly happy people don’t allow set backs to affect their mood because they know that with a little thought they can turn the circumstances back to their favor.
5    Spend a few minutes each day thinking about the things that make you happy. These few minutes will give you the opportunity to focus on the positive things in your life and will lead you to continued happiness.
6    It’s also important to take some time each day to do something nice for yourself. Whether you treat yourself to lunch, take a long, relaxing bath or simply spend a few extra minutes on your appearance you will be subconsciously putting yourself in a better mood.
7    Finding the humor in situations can also lead to happiness. While there are times that require you to be serious, when it is appropriate, find a way to make light of a situation that would otherwise make you unhappy.
8    Maintaining your health is another way to achieve happiness. Being overweight or not eating nutritious foods can have a negative effect on your mood. Additionally, exercise has been known to release endorphins that give you a feeling of happiness.
9    Finally, it is important to understand that you deserve happiness. Those who believe that they are not worthy of happiness may subconsciously sabotage their efforts to achieve happiness. If necessary, tell yourself each day that you deserve to be happy and remind yourself what steps you will take to achieve the happiness you desire.

Happiness is hard to define but most people are aware of whether they are happy or not. Many people believe that happiness is a form of luck and that some people are destined to be happy while others are destined to be unhappy. Find what can really make you happy and work towards that. Others may disappoint you but you wouldnt disappoint yourself if you know what you really want. Focus on your happiness instead of others.

Be confident. Take risks. Trust yourself.
and lastly, believe in yourself, believe life is full of happiness :)

ps/ stay a healthy diet and exercise today because research have shown it plays a part in achieving happiness :)

Discuss Social Media (with regards to DPM Teo : Social Media is a double-edged sword)

As mentioned by DPM Teo :  Social media is a double—edged sword
http://news.xin.msn.com/en/singapore/storyviewer.aspx?cp-documentid=6211834

Below is the article on his views, however what’s your take?

***
SINGAPORE: Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said social media is a double—edged sword for social cohesion.

He was speaking at the annual dialogue for the Community Engagement Programme, a national social cohesion and crisis response network.

DPM Teo said the very same Internet that connects Singaporeans can also isolate people and disrupt social harmony.

“Anonymity on the Internet emboldens people, encouraging them to take on more extreme views than they might otherwise. The Internet also amplifies the extreme views even though they might be in the minority, and virtual mobs form to cheer or jeer, which only help to accentuate the differences, polarise and inflame emotions further,” he said.

Some 600 community, business and youth leaders, and several government ministers joined the dialogue on Singapore’s social challenges.

Online behaviour, especially on social media, was a recurrent theme across all the five dialogue groups.

“If we believe that the majority of Singaporeans are rational and calm in our responses, then surely this will be reflected in the way we relate to each other, be it on the social media space or mainstream media. One of the conclusions from my group was that all of us have this responsibility. At the end of the day, you can’t have one set of rules being imposed on a community, if the community does not own that set of rules,” said Singapore Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Chan Chun Sing.

Mr Chan said he hopes netizens will come forward to collectively shape the norms of online behaviour that are acceptable for Singaporeans.

Technology was one of three driving forces Mr Teo said can have a profound impact on Singapore’s social resilience.

Another driving force — immigration. Mr Teo said Singapore needs to pay “extra attention” to new immigrants who are ready to sink their roots here. He urged Singaporeans to play their part in making new citizens feel more welcome.

Extremism, too, remains on the radar.

Mr Teo said the extremist threat includes self—radicalised “lone wolves”, like Norwegian gunman Anders Breivik, who killed 77 people last year.

But this threat can also rally people together in the fight against terror, and this is where regular dialogues can play a useful role in strengthening the common ground across Singapore’s different racial and religious communities.

To a large extent, I agree.

However what else does social media actually mean to you?

In society,  Media, being  one of the most powerful tool of communication also assist in the promotion.  Although  at times  information  may be irrelevant and untrue  it provides  the information  on the happenings around us.

Media exposes  the public of  the right or wrong  and  plays a constructive role in  society. Now it is more open in the exploration of issues of society  than in the past when the media was not given any fair opportunities.

In the past,  the public have been using Traditional media .  Promotions and advertisements in newspapers, magazines, television, radio, brochures and flyers are means  of advertising a product or business.    This is a way of informing the public of  the happenings of events and programs.  Now, the internet was introduced  for the convenience of the people around the world but of course, there are chances that people abuse that right on the internet.

Social media offers numerous opportunities for both personal and professional purposes, for example, right from connecting with family and friends to like-minded professionals. Research also concludes the fact that people are logging on to social networking sites like Twitter; Facebook and Linkedin like never before.

Social media supports interaction. When was the last time you wished someone, ‘Happy birthday’ in school, face to face, and not actually knowing today’s his birthday because of Facebook? The traditional method is a typical classroom kind of learning with little chance for interaction. However, social media learning takes the form of interaction which is a highly effective form of active learning. It helps network with people of similar passion and goals. It helps to share ideas and experiences, and obtain competencies implanted in real life, unravel opportunities and recommend the path to success.

Social media also allows access information anytime and anywhere. It also facilitates access of information of a diverse kind on a given topic with ease and efficiency. In turn, it supports lifelong learning processes and professional development.

In the present scenario, social media is turning out to be relatively inexpensive and accessible learning platform rather than just a place for networking. “Humans are social beings, hence learning through social media will surely impact the way for one to learn.”

Being classified as a ‘Global’ village in this era, with new media, the outreach to readers is huge and can be reached all around the world. On the other hand, with such new medium, it is often resulted  to criticism that can be widely spread on the internet.

With the internet and technology being so popular, it is difficult to control the many changes that is happening every other day. One day, such new media will be more improvised and soon be part of traditional media and by then, something newer will be introduced to the people of our future generations.

What’s your take on Social media?
